The 11-Year-Old Changing the Game: Meet Georg Maslin-Lund

At just 11 years old, Georg Maslin-Lund is already proving that passion, hard work, and determination can take you a long way on the netball court.

Georg's netball journey began only a year ago when, at the age of 10, he picked up a ball for the very first time. Inspired by his mum's impressive netball career - having played at National League level for the Waikato BOP Magic and earning selection in the NZA squad - it's safe to say that netball runs in the family.

What started as curiosity quickly grew into a genuine love for the game. Today, Georg plays both school and club netball and is quickly establishing himself as one of Queensland's exciting young talents.

For Georg, netball is about more than just winning. He loves the creativity of the game, the friendships formed on and off the court, and the opportunity to continually challenge himself to become the best athlete he can be.

His commitment to improvement is remarkable. During representative season, Georg trains almost every day of the week across his school, club, and representative commitments. When he's not at training, you'll often find him at home practising his shooting and working on his skills.

Despite often being the youngest player in his teams, Georg has never shied away from a challenge. In fact, he embraces it.

Competing alongside older athletes has helped him develop confidence, resilience, and strong communication skills at a young age. Playing in both boys' and girls' teams has also strengthened his ability to adapt, allowing him to grow across multiple positions and gain valuable experience in different styles of play.

In just a short period of time, Georg's dedication has already been recognised through an impressive list of achievements. He has earned selection in the Gold Coast United Under 14 Club Team, the South Coast Regional School Boys Team (10–12 years) for the Queensland Representative School Sport Championships, and the Hinterland Junior Boys Representative Team.

Adding to this list, Georg has also secured a place in the Robina State High School Netball Academy for 2027, becoming the academy's first-ever male athlete—an achievement that speaks volumes about both his talent and the changing landscape of netball.

His teams have also enjoyed success, with the HDNA Representative Team finishing runners-up at the Junior State Age Championships and the South Coast team placing fourth at the QRSS State Championships.

Ask Georg's coaches and teammates what sets him apart, and you'll hear the same things time and time again: his positive attitude, strong work ethic, coachability, and sportsmanship. Beyond his talent, he's known for encouraging those around him and leading by example.

Looking ahead, Georg has big dreams. He hopes to continue developing across multiple positions while pursuing opportunities to compete at both national and international levels. Most importantly, he's passionate about inspiring more boys to take up netball and showing that the sport is a place where everyone can belong, grow, and succeed.
